eBoy comprises of Kai Vermehr, Steffen Sauerteig and Svend Smital and is probably the most famous name in the world of pixel art. Their painstakingly complex pieces leave the viewer ogling, searching out all the tiny details, that could otherwise be missed. The group have had a prolific career. They have produced toys, bags, skateboard decks, various fashion pieces, had tons of exhibitions and have worked with far too many names to mention! You can find more of their work on their website.

I was looking through our blog and realised that we do not have enough pixel art. Then I remembered back to the great point and click games I used to love playing when I was younger.  Who remembers the great games put out by LucasArts such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam & Max and Grim Fandango? Well, the Mojo Art Blog has a good general collection of artwork, videos, fan art and more. They also have a credits list for the games, so you can see who was involved. Don’t expect the nicest looking website in the world, but do expect a great little archive of content.

Quick tip: Use the right hand side of the blog to easily navigate.

USA based Bananamantis creates brilliant fantasy style pixel characters. There is a mixture of Pokémon, My Little Pony and various other franchises amongst her work, as well as loads of original characters. I’ve always found pixel art amazing. It’s fascinating to see how creative you can get within the restrictions of the pixel grid. This is an artform that was created out of necessity, as technology moved onto computer screens. Now that we have moved on from that visual language, as screens have much higher resolutions and can take in much more detailed imagery it is great to see so many people online still taking up this art form. Visit Banamantis’ Deviant Art page here for more of her excellent pixel work.
